High waisted shorts: styling for the perfect fit

I’ve been on the market for good summer shorts for a while now and I just found my luck last weekend. I wanted shorts that looked sexy but didn’t show too much skin (butt cheek) and that weren’t too tight but tight enough so that again.. sexy. Catch my drift? I’ve always had a hard time finding the perfect pair for my body. My thighs are not the thinnest so a lot of the time the shorts fit too tight around that area. So, when I found these shorts at Zara this weekend, I had to take two pairs! I own a hefty amount of denim from Zara, and honestly I love every single piece. The quality and style for the price is unmatchable. I’ve tried denim from Urban Outfitters and Top Shop, for example, and have always paid top bucks ($80-100) for something that doesn’t fit perfectly. Then, after I wear it a few times, they start looking old, and honestly, if you’re paying that much for denim, it should fit perfectly and make you want to wear it every day!

So back to these shorts and some tips on how to style them.

Tops

High waisted denim tends to fit so that it shows off your curves. With that being said, it tends to look a lot better with tops that are cropped or that fit right around your waist area, so that the top complements the bottoms. If you’re not comfortable wearing cropped tops, look for flowy shirts that you can tuck in. Big t-shirts usually look cool tucked in!

Tightness

Pay attention to the tightness of your denim. If you’re having trouble sipping it up, you might need to try a bigger size to begin with. If it sips fine but still looks pretty tight, maybe try pairing it with a loose cropped tee or a flowy shirt tucked in. I actually bought two different sizes because the fit was different, but the smaller size actually looks tighter. I’ll probably wear bigger shirts with the tighter shorts.

Shoes

You really can’t go wrong with the shoes you wear but I highly advise against wearing heels or wedges if you want to keep your look classy. I don’t know why but for some reason adding high heels to the mix just make the outfit look slutty. BUT if that’s what you’re going for.. more power to you! Seriously. I tried on the second outfit (white top) with black 4-inch-heel mules and a slutty vibe is all I got. So, luckily I could count on the ones you see in the pic, which gave me the look I was going for. It might be a little modest for some girls.. and I get it, but that’s my style.

I loved pairing the sneakers with the floral blouse in this outfit! These sneakers have been my go-to and I don’t see them going anywhere this summer. I’ll be walking around in them with everything I can –shorts, skirts, dresses, you name it.
