The avocado toast

March 5, 2018

Is the avocado toast just another trend? I really hope not. It’s a quick, healthy and super delicious meal for me, whether I make it for lunch during the week or brunch on the weekend. I add all sorts of toppings to it and it’s always perfect! I wanted to give you a few tips on how to make this fancy treat at home. Let’s make this trend last, just don’t overdo it because I don’t want the poor avocado farms to run out of avocados!

Anyway, this weekend my husband and I decided to pop a bottle of champagne that had been staring at us for months. No lie. We bought it to celebrate something (can’t remember) and didn’t get to drink it when we planned. So I wanted to make something quick and cute to go with our mimosas, and you guessed right, I made avocado toast. As mentioned.. these are the tips I always follow:

The toast

Believe it or not, it all starts with the toast. If you want this to be an avocado toast and not an avocado sandwich, you can’t use Mrs. Baird’s bread. Don’t worry though, the perfect bread is not hard to find! At pretty much any grocery store, there’s some sort of bakery. Find a round-shaped loaf of bread and ask the baker to slice it for you. Depending on the store, they might have different types of bread, so it’s up to you to pick the one you want! I usually go with something with seeds/nuts or whole wheat. The slices are round and are usually thicker, so they hold everything in place. Trust me it’s worth getting this!

The avocado mix

You can either slice the avocado and just drop it onto the toast solo, or you can smash it and add some salt & pepper before spreading it onto your toast. Personally, I like either one. The quickest option is to place the slices of avocado onto the toast and just kind of smash/spread it all over, then sprinkle some salt & pepper. I also love using Trader Joe’s “Everything but the Bagel Seasoning blend”. I sprinkle a little and it really makes all the difference!

The toppings

If the avocado alone is not enough (it’s usually not for me), you can add other things to your toast. I usually limit myself to adding one or two things on top of the avocado so it’s not too heavy. In the toast you see, I added slices of prosciutto and arugula. Some of the slices also got a little egg white, which happens to be my favorite topping! So it really depends on what you like, but these toppings usually go great with avocado –> egg, egg white, cheese (mozzarella or parmesan), cold cut meats (ham, prosciutto, etc.) and veggies like spinach, arugula, and cherry tomatoes.

I hope you enjoy my avocado toast tips. 🙂
